My English Competence in 2015

If I had to apply for university or work I would choose my best oral and written evidence, which are:

Written evidence:
http://angelinawurth.blogspot.com.es/2015/03/australia.html
Oral evidence:
https://audioboom.com/boos/2985878-nip-tuck-dialogue

I have choosen these evidence because I think that they show the best my English level and my personal life, my goals, hopes and my personality.
Firstly, the written evidence is divided in paragraphs linked with discourse markers and correct puntuation signs. I haven't used the same vocabulary and I tried to use some different connectors (Plus, due to...). I was very inspired when I wrote it and I was a little bit confused about my future, so I just let go all my feelings go into it. In conclusion, I decided to choose this post because it exposes my plans for the future and my goals.
Secondly, the oral evidence demonstrates my pronunciation and fluency while speaking English.

To sum up, I don't consider that these evidences shows my best level because I know that now after reading it another time there are a few things I would change, like the structure, some vocabulary, connectors...

My English Progress from 2013-2015

Since 2013 nothing really amazing happened and I just had my boring daily routine, due to this I thought that this would be the longest two years in my life, but wrong.
I could have never imagined how fast two years can pass, until now. I can perfectly remember my first Batxillerat day like it was yesterday. The first weeks I just was shocked and and desperate about all the homework and exams we were supposed to do, however this was just the beggining of the two most stressed years in my life.
I started the week with English and my new teacher Milco; our first homework was to write her an e-mail explaining a little bit about ourselfs:

"Hello, here is some information about me.
My name is Angelina Würth and I am sixteen years old. My hometown is Donaueschingen, a little village in Germany. I was born there and I lived there for 5 years. My dad had the idea to come to Spain when I was around 3 years, so he decided to buy a house and find a job, and after this I also came with my mother. Now I'm living in Empuriabrava for eleven years and lot of things have changed, my parents separated last year and now my dad is moving with his girlfriend to Barcelona and I'm still here living with my mother and her new boyfriend. I always try to go to Germany three times a year, but this year I coudn't because I am working in a jewerly shop in Empuriabrava, Angelo Luchini. I have to work a lot of hours but I love it. This summer I worked with three other girls but one already leaved home, to Slovaquia. On 15th October we close during the winter, so I'll have more time to study and on Christmas I can finally go to Germany to visit my family."

So, I wrote this in my first weeks at Batxillerat and I consider that not only my vocabulary and grammar skills have improved, also my personal life has changed a lot since than.
Comparing this letter to my last composition:
http://angelinawurth.blogspot.com.es/2015/05/mothers-day-things-i-learned-from-my-mom.html

I noticed that I have started to use paraghaps to order my ideas, of course with the correct connectors and puntuation signs. Plus, normally I introduce my writings with a reason and ask some questions. To sum up, I think that the structure and maturity in my posts have improved a lot.
About the grammar, I always try to avoid repeated words and connectors (but, also...) and use new words we learn in the projects, however I always want to learn from my mistakes because it's the only way to learn about them and do it better the next time.

In addition, I'm very proud of myself about the improvement in my oral presentations. I remember the first times in ESO when I had to do oral presentations, even if it was with my friends, I always got so nervous that I did a lot of mistakes in pronunciation and fluency. The mistakes were very silly because I perfectly knew that I were making them, but whith all the nervousness I did it all wrong. Due to the practice over the years I have changed a little bit to better, but well I still get very nervous and make silly mistakes.

In conclusion, I noticed a lot of differences between my first writing and oral presentations and my last, not only in the grammar and vocabulary level, also in my personal development.

Mother's day: things I learned from my mom

I hate to admit it, but my mother is usually right in nearly everything.
With every question or doubt I came to her, she gave me an answer and even if I didn't want to hear it in that moment, at the end when everything was too late, I always realized that she was right.
In our relationship during the last few years, especially after the divorce of my parents I always saw my mother as the bad one, who does it all wrong, and my father was always the best, like he never does anything wrong, though he absolutely does it all wrong.
Now, with nearly 18 years, my opinion of them start to change. I finally see what my mother does for me, and that my father does nothing except making empty promises.
So after plenty of fights, tears and laughter, we finally made it better, not completely but we are working on our relationship.

One thing I  really aprecciate is that she never used the "I told you so" after I sat in my room crying over situations I probably could have avoided, had I listened to her. I really hate it when someone says that, because they only make you feel worser than before.
Now that I think about it, there a lot of things I should have listened to my mom, like the following:

-Friends: I should have taken her advice on many issues I had with my friends, but instead I had to learn the hard way which one are my true friends.
-Boys: she always knew before I did which were the good ones and which the bad ones, but of course I listened to nothing she said.
-Being kind: She thaught me that being good to someone, even when that person isn't good to you, is always better than showing negativity.
-Do what you really want: My mother never forced me to do anything, I'm always free to do what I thing is good for me.

Why do we get sleep in our eyes?

It is known that our eyes fill up with gunk as we sleep, but do we know why?

Firstky, gunk ist that what accumulates in the corner of the eyes over the night, also known as sand or eye boogers.

The structure of eyes is really complicated. Closest to the eye is a layer made of mucus. It coats the cornea and attracts water, which allows the dristribution of the second layer. This layer is really important, it keeps our eyes lubricated and washes away potential infections. Finally, there is also an outer layer composed of an oily substance called meibum
This meibum is an oily fluid at a normal human body tempature but at just one degree cooler, it becomes a white and waxy solid, the eye gunk.

Large flakes of this solid can form during sleep for a couple of reasons. First, the body cools down a little bit at night, so the meibum turns solid. Second, sleep relaxes the muscular action of the gland ducts and due to this our eyes are coated with more meibum than usual at night.
Now that we know what the gunk is and from where it comes, why our body makes it? In first place it prevents our tears from spilling out of our eyes and dribbling down our cheeks, our daily-life would be really complicated if our eyes were constantly streaming. But meibum is not the only factor that helps prevent our eyes from drying out. Blinking is important too. The act of blinking hydrate our meibomian glands, cause a little bit of extra meibum and helps the oily meibum and water tears mix together to form and emulsion called tear film. If you spend a lot of time without blinking, the emulsion feels apart an the cornea is exposed to air, and that could be really damaging.
In addition, millions of people have "dry eyes", the disorder leads to eye fatigue, red eye, irritation and the sensation that the eyes are heavier than normal. This disorder apperead due to the excessive use of reading, driving, typing or working, which reduce the frequency of our blinks during those activities.
In conclusion, I thing that writing this post I blinked a lot more than usual because of the fear to get dry eyes, and I will also consider how important gunk is before waking up tomorrow and wipe it away.

The world's most charming mailbox

This is a story about a couple and a mailbox. At first sight is doesn't seem to have anything in common, however you will be surprised.
When the couple first started dating, the man sweared to show her one day  tales of a 300-year-old whisky-cask-turned-makeshift-post-office in the Galapagos Islands, 973km off the coast of Ecuador. The empty cask had been placed on Floreana Island in 1793, when whalers and sailors frequented the remote archipelago to restock on fresh water and giant tortoise meat. Since the seamen could be on the water for years at a time, they had to devise a clever way to communicate with beloveds at home, a tradition that continues to this day. Before departing the islands, the  seamen would place letters in the cask, addressed to friends and family all over the world. In return, they would search the barrel for envelopes addressed to their future ports of call, taking those that matched their onward destinations. When they arrived in a city where a letter was addressed, they would hand-deliver the letter to the recipient.
The coulple decided to go to Galapagos, scoop up a handful of letters addressed to all corners of the world, and hand-deliver each and every one of them.
Firstly, they explored the islands before arriving to Floreana. However, they coudn't wait anymore to open the mailbox and finding piles of ancient letters, some hundred years old, still waiting to be delivered. As they finally arrived, instead of seeing a large whisky cask, they found a barrel that resembled more of a birdhouse than a mailbox.
They opened the barrel to reveal an enormous pile of postcards and began sorting through the piles of postcards. Amid all the " wish you were heres" and jokes, they managed to find a handful of cards with important messages. A few were sent to loved ones that couldn't make the trip, some were letters of admiration all addressed to countries the couple wanted to visit in the future, so they left the island with 22 postcards and left the ones written by them in the mailbox.
They travelled during three years the world and delivered all the letters in 17 countries.
In the end, the couple realised that the most important thing of this mailbox isn't seeing it and the travelling, what's been truly  important is the people and stories they encountered along the way.

Mother's day

In honor of Mother's day, an organisation asked people to participate in a video tribute celebrating moms and motherhood.
Firstly, they described their mothers and then they shared one thing they wanted their moms to know, or one thing they would like to tell their moms.
The resulting footage is so emotional and touching; you can perfectly see how the speaker's faces light up as they talk about their moms.
Personally, this experiment has shown me how grateful and lucky I am to have my mother in my life and that I should appreciate her more and not take her for granted only because she is always there for me.

Isabella Barrett

Isabella Barrett is only 8 years old, but yet a millioaire.
As a little girl she started participating in beautypeagents and nearly won them all. Then she started singing in her own music band, modeling and now even creating and designing her own accesorrories and clothes collection.
These collections had so much success that she is the youngest self-made millionaire in the world.

With her 8 years she owns her own money and can spend it like she wants to. So it's obvioulsy that her wishes aren't about having a new barbie or a little dog. Her christmas wishing list was about going on holidays to Hawaii, a new summer house and a recording studio for her band, and the most amazing is that she could buy it all by herself.
According to her mom, despite of her success, she lives a normal life. She goes everyday to school, plays with her friends and after finishing her homework, she's allowed to work on her collections.

To sum up, Isabella has achieved with only 8 years what others work and wish all their life for. It is also clear that this can not be only her dream, her mother surely also plays a big role in it.

Little William

It is clearly known that these photos are edited by photoshop, but the story behind them is quite surprising.
These pictures are taken by Alan Lawrence for his son William, who has Down syndrome. According to Lawrence, he didn't take the news about his son as well as his wife and he even thought that his son would be a burden because of his disability, however he's ashamed now for saying that because he hat it all wrong.
It all started at his birth in 2013, as a baby he soon started doing weird positions, as he wanted to fly. Therefore came the idea to make a little project, which has now conquered the social media. His dad, an art director who does photography on the side, started taking pictures of his son assuming the "flying" pose and then edited him into gorgeous backdrops or funny situations, like one in which he looks like he's soaring above a field of cows.
Family and friends loved the photos so much that Lawrence is now trying to produce a series of calendars. The family also launched a Kickstarter campaign called "Bringing Light" to raise money for a road trip so they can take more photos at scenic spots, and meet other families with children who have Down syndrome along the way. So far, they have raised more than 2.000 dollars.
Alan Lawrence said that the project is a way for him to prove to the world that even kids with Down syndrome, like his son, can live magical lives. This project is also a way for them to show how much their son blessed the family, he's not a burden and he has opened the door to so many things and to new experiences.
They hope his son's story helps encourage parents who are worried about raising a baby with Down syndrome and it actually has.

Letter to Barack Obama

Carrer Sant Sebastià 43
Empuriabrava
Girona 17487
20th April 2015
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Barack Obama,
As the President of the United States of America you are doing a really good job,
I highly respect your work trying to improve the education of each State and culture, to avoid any sort of discrimination and unrespectful behavior and of course, the improvement of the image for the United States, since you are the President, a lot changed for better.
Even if you are doing a great job, there are a few things, which with a little bit of motivation and with the help of all the inhabitants of the States you could change; some examples are the legal death penalty in some states, the current driscrimination, the inexistent medical healthcare and totally different education levels.
In conclusion, I really consider that you are one of the best presidents the United States of America ever had however, you could do more for your country and not only try to do it.

Yours sincerely,
Angelina Würth.

The heart wants what it wants

We know it from every single movie we have seen or book we have readed, there is always the handsome and athletic boy who always dates the prettiest girls, and then they are the others, the sensitive and caring boys, who are always wondering what they are doing wrong with the girls.

Due to this, recently  some students of Hurtpury College in England did a research in regards to marriage, relationships and narcissistic men. They asked 146 women between 18 and 28 years old, and the study found out that even those who already have dated self-absorbed men, they never learned their lessons and continued to pursue these types of men.
Moreover, the more relationship experience each women had, the more she found narcissistic men attraktive.
In conclusion, it has all to do with the self-confidence and power narcissistic men exude.

Personally, I know plenty of these narcisstic boys, and the truth is that they always get the girl that they want, without doing anything. However, they are also always the boys who are more likely to cheat and think about themselves.

Karl Lagerfeld's cat earned 2 million last year

Karl Lagerfeld's cat, Choupette, earned over 2 million dollars last year, from two jobs. Meanwhile, top model and actress Cara Delevigne earned 2,4 million in a year after travelling around the world and attending to fashion weeks during a whole year.

These two jobs, a collaboration with cosmetics brand Shu Uemura and the photo shoot for the Vauxhall Corsa car calender, brought her all this money, but the cat has really an expensive lifestyle, so she sure will need her 2 million dollars. She's always flying First Class with, of course, her two maids in tow, has an own ¡Pad, she's always attending photo shoots for covers and has already over 54K followers on Instagram.

In my opinion, her owner is really going to far with his obsession for Choupette. According to him, he is very picky when it comes to the jobs that the cat takes on and he is even ready to marry his cat if it was legal. In addition, she hates other animals and children, she always stays with Lagerfeld and her two maids, who play with her and take care after her beautiful white hair and beauty treatments for her eyes.

To sum up. she really seems to be the centre of the world, and I'm sure that if we could see her we would understand how beautiful she is, just like the fashion designer said.

Man survives after storm leaves him lost at sea for 66 days

As I first read this story I thought that it was like a movie plot or somethings like this, but it's really an incredibly real story.

The 36-year-old american inexperienced sailor Louis Jordan set out for a fishing trip the 23th of January in South Carolina with his sailboat. He was on his way to the Gulf Stream in search of a big fish when a storm hit. According to him, he was sleeping when the boat capsized and turned around.

Unfortunetly, the storm's massive waves threw him into a wall, so he broke his collarbone. He wanted to call to get help but the communication equipment had also broken, so he prayed for help and read his bible all the way through and his own survival tactics kept him alive. He carefully rationed his food supply, drank rain water and ate raw fish for 66 days at sea.

Besides, his father reported him missing after a week, so the Coast Guard began searching but quit after 10 days because they cound't find his boat. For his luck, 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina, a German cargo ship saw him standing on his boat waving his arms and brought him to the hospital.
Surprisingly, he was released just one day later because he was in a remarkable condition considering what he had been through.

What money can't buy

The talk of the Harvard Professor Michael Sandel really made me think about today's society and how we live and spend our money.
We watched it last week in class because of the recommendation of my philosophy teacher. Firstly I thought that it would be boring and really hard to follow, like all the things he normally shows us. But this video surprised me a lot.
Mr. Sandel starts a debate about the topic what money can't buy nowadays, because according to him, today nearly everything can be bought if we have enough money, even moral, civic and educational activities.
The fact that some schools even pay their students to read a book and so make them study is really shoking. I can't imagine me earning money for reading a book, if it was like this I had a lot of money right now. But I think that this method will never achieve the goals that they  want, students should learn to love to read, they should have fun and be interested in what they read, and not only because they will get money for each book.
As simple as it is, there are just some things that will never can be bought. To have a passion for doing something you love, or just the feeling of loving someone or something are perfect examples for it.
In conclusion, I realized how we have shifted from a marked economy to a marked society and how necessary it is to change it.

Human Rights

Everybody has heard someday about Human Rights, but do we exactly know what they are?
Human Rights are the rights you simply have because you're human. They are based on the principle of respect for the individual because everybody deserves to be treated with dignity.
They are called Human Rights because they are universal, but as we can see and observe, not everybody follows them.

It's history was complicated and long lasting. After a long time fighting for the declaration and a lot of tragic experiences like the Second World War, they finally realized the need of some basic human rights that can regulate and avoid future human catastrophes,  and so they got legal in 1948 under the chairmanship of Eleanor Roosevelt.
Actually,  the Declaration consists of 30 laws based on universality, interdependence and indivisibility, equality and non-discrimination, though only 80 percent of nations ratified four o five laws. It's obvious that the more developed and modern nations follow the most laws, like freedom from slavery, life, liberty and securety, legal recognition, asylum and freedom of expression.

Personally, like most of people I knew about the existence of the Human Rights, but I had no idea what they exactly were and how many. What shocked me the most is that I thought that these laws have to be necessary followed by each country and not only for those who want to.

I didn't knew about the existence of the right to play, which consists of the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and holidays with pay. The name of this right seems a little bit funny but it's absolutely necessary for our personal life.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is known for many things, but being a diva isn't one of them, at least not until now.
According to National Enquirer, the singer insured her legs, for $40 million. The National Enquirer is oft-unrealiable, so it could be that the story is a big fake, but Taylor Swift dind't denied it.
Apparently, the singer was unsure how much her legs would be appraised for and was shocked and even a little bit embarassed about the suposed value of her legs, so we supose that the story is true.

After thinking a little about it, it's not that surprising that she insured her body, and she sure isn't the first celebrity to do it. Jennifer Lopez's ass is valuated for $300 million, seriously.
It also has it's logical reason, if something happens to Taylor's legs, she wouln't be able to give her stage perfomances, so her $200 career would be in big trouble. However, I think that it's overstated to get so much money if something happens to your legs, even to Taylor's.

60 seconds

I just found this article on a news website and it surprised and shocked me a lot. It's about a list, written by the autors of List25, of 20 things that are happening every minute around the world:
So right at this moment, the next 60 seconds...

- There will be five earthquakes.
- There will be 360 lightnings on the Earth.
- 250 children will be born.
- 113 of them will be born in underdeveloped countries.
- 15 of them will have birth problems or disabilities.
- We will use 55.000 barrels of oil.
- The Sun will throw 60 million tones of material in the space.
- 105.360 cubic meters of water will fall into the Iguazú Falls.
- 960 million tons of water are going to be evaporated from the Earth surface.
- A bird will move i'ts wings about 4 thousand times.
- 6 million chemical reactions will be produced in every cell in our body.
- You will move your eyelashes 12 times.
- Bill Gates is going to earn 15 thousand dollars.
- Nike is going to earn 36 thousand dollars.
- Nike workers will earn a tenth of a penny.
- They will cut 2.040 trees in the rainforest.
- 1800 stars will explode.
- 107 people will die.
- People all around the world will eat 4.500 McDonald's burgers.
- But, 18 of the 170 deaths, will die of starvation.

Personally, this list surprised me a lot. I only knew some of the facts like the birth of children, especially in the third world, the number of deaths every minute and that we move our eyelashes 12 times in 60 seconds.
However, what really shocked me is that Bill Gates and Nike are earning such an amount of money in this short time, comparing it to the workers of Nike. In addition, the fact that while people are eating 4500 burgers, 18 people die because of starvation is more than only a sign for us to act and avoid it. Finally, It's also remarkable that propably we won't have any trees in the future if they continue like this.

A soulmate

I'm realistic enough to not wait my whole life for Prince Charming coming out of the blue, I know that to find the perfect one I have to go out and look for him, because he sure won't be stuck in a tree or something. So, I don't expect to find my soulmate one day, but definately a  lifepartner, therefore I should start to describe my perfect lifepartner.
The ONE should be understanding, caring, loving, loyal, have a similar lifestyle, likes and beliefs to mine, but not too similar because I would get bored. So, I need a guy who will bring me the right balance in my life.
Besides, my perfect lifepartner should respect and accept my flaws and imperfections, just love like I am, so I won't have to change in front of him because I feel unconfortable.
In addition, he also should be attractive, at least to me, I just want to be sure to feel happy seeing his face every morning for the rest of my life.
In conclusion, I know that I am very picky but I hope to find him anyway, he must exist somewhere, but who knows? Maybe he is waiting for me in Australia!

Skype with Noa

The Skype session with Noa was really interesting, especially for me. It presented a great opportunity for the whole class to learn more about taking a year abroad because she explained a little bit about her tasks, her daily rutine, her impressions and her experiences as an au-pair living so far away from home.

She told us that she had payed for an agency espezialized in au-pairs who wanted to go to Australia. The agency also found a family for which she could take care about their children and they fixed all the complicated paper stuff too, so she didn't had to worry about anything.

In the Skype session, I asked Noa what kind of papers she needed, and fortunately I'm lucky of having a German nationality to get the Australian Visa, because as it seems the Spanish people can't get the Working Holiday Visa. Besides this, I'll also need some references, pictures of myself and of course, a passport. Finally, I wondered about the jet-lag, I imagine it to be really tough and I was right. Noa said that it was very difficult for her to get used to the difference of hours, she had a jet-lag during months!

A few months ago I also decided that I want to go a year abroad to Australia and I have already found an agency which will do the same for me, they will look for a family and the papers I'll need. Like her, I hope to have luck with my au-pair family and I hope to have a great time in Australia because this may be the most important experience I will ever have.

Australia

A few months ago I realized that I had no idea what to do with my life. My classmates and friends already we're planning at what college they will go, what to study and even looking for a flat, and there was me who hadn't absolutely no idea.
Since I was little it was already decided that I would go back to Germany after finishing school and go to the university to study something related with busisiness, but now I'm not that sure about it. I still want to study, but what? General business, business management, marketing? I really don't know, there are so many diferent possibilities and it's really complicated to get through them. Plus, there is also the question about the university, I have absolutely no idea in which city I want to study. To sum up, there are so many open questions in my life right now and I just don't feel ready to decide it at the moment.

Due to this, I decided to go a year abroad. During this year I hope to have time to decide what I want to do and I also hope that after this trip I will feel ready and responsible enough to live alone in a city  and of course, to improve my english skills. But instead of choosing a country near home, I decided to go to Australia, at the other end of the world. I don't really know why I've choosen Australia but I think it's because I want to take some time off, and this can't be far away enough from Castelló.

One step closer to Plus-Size

The last magazine of "Sports Illustrated" was a big sensation for all the readers and fans.
Firstly, the magazine became popular for their photo-sessions with the most famous and wanted super models, and obviously they all have one thing in common: their perfect tanned and trained bodies, and they show them, of course in bikinis.
These photo-sessions should motivate women to get fit and do sport, but this isn't the case in real life.
Due to this, the world tried to change the image of a model, introducing the plus-size models. They had a really hard beginning but they continue working on it, and the photo that apperead in this magazine presents a mile stone for them.
The plus-size model Ashley Graham made it in the Sports Illustrated. She represented her body for the campaign "Curves in Bikinis" and she feels safe and sexy in her skin.
In my opinion, this was a really big and risky step from the magazine for publishing Ashley in a bikini, but I think that it comes a little bit late. Plus-size models are conquering the Media for a long time now, and I was really shocked as I saw that they didn't made it in the Sports Ilustrated until now.
To sum up, I hope that this was only the beginning for the models to appear in these kind of magazines, and not only size 0 women.

Why our brains literally love notifications

Our generation is definitely the notifications generation. We love to hear a sound that tells us that someone wants to interact with us via leaving us a comment, to like a photo, to retweet or to write on our walls.Somebody who hasn't heard about these notfications won't understand anything, but we are real professionals in this issue.

The fact is that we love these notifications because they heighten our self-worth and we know that someone is interested in our thoughts. The digital world became just like the real one, we hate beeing ignored from others. Beacause of this we find it really frustrating if we post a selfie of a funny video and nobody comments or like it, just like in the real life. The comments or likes of the notifications tells us that they are important, so that WE are important, and that is exactly what we love about the social networks.
Nevertheless, notifications don't have to be always positive, thay also can create us negative emotions but we don't mind, because a negative comment, stays a comment and says that we are not totally ignored. This fact is really shocking, we prefer to recieve a negative comment than not receaving any!

What is more surprising, it has a scientific explanation! It's all about the dopamine, a chemical associated with reward and motivaiton response in our brains, that emerges when we get a notification. These hits of dopamine recharge our addictive compulsion to social media, and we can't help but to feed into this compulsion, in fact, apparently a disorder called Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) exists.

In conclusion, I will try to turn my push notifications off because I don't want to be addicted to it, what I have to confesss, I already am. ( a little bit).

Why are we so tired at midday?

I started wondering because in the last hours in school I always become extremely tired, so much that I really have to force myself to keep my eyes open and try to listen to the teacher, but this is nearly impossible. However, after school I come home and eat lunch, but then I'm more tired than before! It's like all the energy I had in the morning disappears and I really need to sleep.

I always thought that only I had this feeling, but no. It's not only a mith, the 2:30 is the consequence if you haven't had your afternoon caffeine fix or if you're making an excuse for a boring situation you don't care to be in. Mostly, the only solution is to take caffeine!

This afternoon fatigue has many possible causes, one of them is the body's natural sleep cycle. Our body's natural sleep cycle will automatically make us want to take a nap in the afternoon, because we woke up early in the morning. Because of this, some cultures have the siesta, like we have in Spain, because they find that they're more productive and bettter able to concentrate if they take time off after lunch. So, as a matter of fact, if you take a nap after lunch, your productivity increases throughout the rest of the day,
Another causes of the fatigue is the release of sleep chemicals, melatonin. These natural chemicals tells you that it's time to sleep between 2 and 4 in the afternoon. The release has to do with a dip in our core body temperature, because right before going to sleep, the temperature drops, which is a signal for the brain to release melatonin.
Some possible for having more energy during work is to have a right diet and to move. Doctors believe that only the move of standing up from your chair, produces beneficial  health effects.  Therefore, getting up and walk around every hour and eating proteins every morning, should avoid the afternoon fatigue.

Personally, I do all of these things and still feel like death at midday. So, as I see it, the best solution is to relax a little bit after school and take a lot of caffeine!

#THEDRESS

Last night, the Internet became engulfed in a debate over the colour of a photographed  $77 dress. The drama about this dress is that people see it in two different colours, but it is actually white and gold or black and blue?

People all around the world, including celebraties, are wondering about the colour, the Social Media is full with it and it really started a revolution.
I saw this picture in the morning before going to school and I didn't realized what was happening, but later in school my classmates were also showing me this dress, so I realized that EVERYONE has heard about it. In the same way, some of my classmates saw it in white-gold and others blue-black, but I continued seeing it white-gold, so I started to believe that they were kidding.

However, now I know they weren't because there is actually a scientific explanation for it; it all has to do with evolution and the way in which human eyes and brains see and analyze color in daylight. Our eyes are connected to our brains via the optic nerve, which transmits the information about what we're seeing to our brains, but this information must not be always true. Naturally,  We can detect what colour we are seeing, so even if they are a lot of colours in the backround our eyes are pretty good at eliminating these and see the actual coloUr of the focal object, like the dress.

To sum up, the famous dress reveals that daylight can sometimes play tricks on our brains. This make sense, because the colour we see in the picture depends on the time of the day and how light it is in the moment we are seeing it . Due to the fact the photo was taken under bright light, some people brain's get confused and they see it white and gold when it's actually blue and black.

Why we may fall ill when we're on holiday

In this research, Claudia Hammond wanted to find out why people fall ill in their holidays, and a possible reason for it could be that the most of them before going on holiday rush to get everything done related with the work so they can run-up to their holiday. This affliction is so common that it even has a name, leisure sickness.

The dutch psychologist Vingerhoets who gave a name to this illness, asked more than 1.800 people to find out if they have suffered a leisure sickness, but the results were surprising. Only a 3% of people said they did, but even this little number, it is a reason for him to look for a physiological explanation.
Firstly, the logical explanation for the illness we get as soon as we stop working, is that the stress hormones that help us cope with work deadlines get out of balance, and leave us open to infection. Secondly, the other less logical reason is that we are so busy during work that we don't notice that we are becoming ill until we have the chance to relax.

Another pshycologist interested in this topic, James Pennebaker, also did a study observing ill students watching a film and he found out, that the more interesting the movie was the less they coughed, and in the boring scenes  they seemed to notice their sore throats and cough a lot. So, the phsycologist came to the conclusion that the less that's going around a person, the worse their symptoms are.
Finally, another logical explanation is the cabin fever. Travelling is always tiring, particulary by plane. In a plane, the recycled air is often blamed  for his rate of infection plus the sitting in an endclosed space and the humidity can often cause an infection.

To sum up, I agree the most with the last explanation because I also became ill more than once after travelling to Germany by plane but I also see the point of the first one, because after school, holidays are the first time that the body can finally relax and calm down, so in my opinion, the leisure sickness must be a mix of all factors.

Paralyzed girl walks in New York Fashion Week

The 19 years old girl, Megan Silcott has suffered for nearly the past two years from a rare neurological disorder also called "Kissing disease". I'ts really common among teenagers and it normally disappears after a few weeks with a sore throat, nausea and fatigue, but not in her case because it ended up manifesting into the illness ADEM, wich paralyze you from the waist down.

Megan Silcott, noticed her illness in one of the worst ways. One morning after a party night she wantet to get up and go to shower but she couldn't move. Before this morning,  she has been a healthy athelete and her biggest dream was to become a model, but this dream seemed nearly impossible due to her doctors who told her that the chances for her to walk again were very little, but the teenager never thought about giving up, so she did the best that she could and started to attend a therapy during two years, and as it seems, with success.

The famous designer Nina Perdomo heard about her story and wanted to make her dream become real so she invited Megan to participate in her runaway with the aid of a walker and this was only the beggining of her carreer as a model.

In conclusion, this story is really impressful and it shows again that anything can be possible if you truly want it and work for it.

IS INTERNET MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?

It is believed that the Internet and Social Networks like Facebook or Twitter are very appropiate and popular to meet new people around the world. In addition, it is also very useful to solve problems as well as answer questions, but in spite of it, is it really making the world a better place or is it making it worse?

In the first place, I agree that Internet makes it all easier in every way, not only to meet new people. Nowadays, the Social Networks offer new learning methods and a lot of opportunities that we never could have imagined that they were achievable, like chatting with somebody who lives far far away from you or to order food in the Internet, what seems really crazy.

On the other hand, the Internet also brought a lot of problems to our society. Due to some Social Network, a lot of teenagers have been bullied from other kids because of their weight or other issues and the truth is that a few of them ended up with suicide.

In conclusion, the Internet has made the world a better place because it offers a lot of chances although we shouldn't forget the risks and control it a little bit more to avoid such problems.

Research Project Summary

Have you ever heard about Pandora?
Of course you have... but in this case I'm not talking about the mythology story, I'm talking about the wonderful jewellery world of Pandora!
This project is based on the study, description and comparison of the company and their rivalry. In fact, this work consists of two parts; in the first theoretical one I explain all the parts of the company, from the history to their range of products and rivalry and on a practical one I compare three different points of view, mine as a seller of Pandora, the one of the costumers and finally the one of a few employees of the company.

How three people can make a baby

A lot of people said that 2015 would be a year full of surprises and changes and they really meant it so. In 2015 children in de U.K may be born with the DNA of three different people, so they will have one father and two mothers. This idea seems crazy and dangerous for the consequences but it has a nice background because it could save a lot of lifes.
The procedure would allow women who carry genes with deseases to have their own biological children without passing down the risk and it is an easy process;  the nucleus is taken from a mother's egg and is inserted into the donor egg with the mitochondria. The resulting egg is then fertilized with the father's sperm and a healthy baby can be born.
For now it seems that it has success because the British Parliament voted to pass a bill authorizing this technique and if the House of Lords also votes in favor it probably could become legal by October.
In my opinion, this method would be a big chance for a lot of families who can't have a baby, but I also think that it also takes a huge risk because the third mother could always want to  require claims for her child.

GERMANY 2014

Last christmas I went, of course, to visit my family in Germany. Despite that we had school the 23th I had to leave that day because I wouldn't have had time to arrive at time to go to the church. Religion and going to church isn't very important in my family, only my great-grandparents go every week. But on the 24th of december my whole family is forced to go because it is the only moment in the year that we are all together, so it's quite funny because most people in church occupy two or three seats, and we are about thirty.
After church, we all go home, eat together and than we open the presents. All this act is always a chaos because we are too many in one house. Even if it is very stressing we do it every year and it's always hilarious. And the next days, the stress begins; we visit everyday another family member and eat at their house, so normally after holidays my jeans doesn't fit anymore.
This year, I was very excited because my cousin was pregnant and finally get her baby and I saw her for the first time, and she is soooo sweet. Besides the christmass meals, I went to a lot of trips with my family and went skiing with my granfather.
In summary, these days were just amazing, besides the homework we had to do... but I can't wait to go back.

CARMEN DELL'OREFICE

Personally, for me Carmen dell'Orefice is the authentic proof that beauty can stay forever.
The american actress and model is 83 years old and still looks pretty good, she seems about 20 years younger than she really is and so is her actitude. She has absolutely no problem with her age and considers herself pretty enough to keep up with the younger models.
She was discovered at the age of 13 by the photographer Herman Landschoff and with 15 years she already appeared of the Vogue cover.
The fact that she was Salvador Dali's muse in her early years surprised me most, but despite the succes, she lost most of her money in the stock market, and probably because of this she returned to the model bussiness.
Carmen dell'Orifice told in an interview the secrets of her beauty, and they weren't that surprising. In summary, she just lived healthy during her life, she didn't smoke or drink alcohol, had an healthy diet and of course, had a few beauty operations. All these are things that all women could do and it seems very easy, but surely it's not that easy to renounce always to drink a cocktail or eat fastfood.

In conclusion, I think that the her return was a great decision because she is now a new idol for a lot of women and inspires them to live healthy and so to keep their beauty.
